I’m getting a little tired of the “I’ve never heard of this game, so it sucks ass!” argument.
To be fair, I’ve never heard of this game. That doesn’t mean it sucks; I honestly don’t know that either way. However, while VC games are cheap, they can’t be returned if I’m not satisfied. Hence, I’d much rather just wait for a game I KNOW is worth playing to spend my 8 bucks on.
That’s how I see it, and probably how most people see it. The argument is ultimately somewhat closed-minded, but it’s not really unjustifiable.
I was referring more to the people who automatically vote all new games one star (except, of course, if they’re Super Mario RPG or a Mega Man game). I agree with you that it’s harder to make a buying decision when you can’t get a refund. Personally, however, I try to read and listen to several reviews from people who have already bought and played the games (not just one person from the IGN staff). I’ve found several worthwhile VC games this way, such as StarTropics, Gunstar Heroes, Sin & Punishment, etc.
But that’s not to say that there aren’t any games that truly deserve one star… Donkey Kong Jr. Math, anyone?
Man Nintendo should rerelease great games for the virtual console like,
1. Donkey Kong 64 for the Nintendo64
2. The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo64
3. Sonic and Knuckles for the Sega Genesis
