Monday March24, 2008 6:30 am in Quick Blip

Two new virtual console games have just been released by Nintendo this week. The newest games are: King’s Knight for the Nintendo and Powerball for the Sega. What’s this? A Square game on the virtual console?

I was also confused by Nintendo’s reasoning for not releasing Goldenye, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo, and Killer Instinct…They stated that since RARE was working with Microsoft, they couldn’t get the rights…But why is Donkey Kong Country and all of it’s sequels on the console? I just don’t get it…But once again I am disappointed with this weeks releases.

If they’re releasing Square games, then why not put out Super Mario RPG already?

The reasons behind these titles not being released is because they are Rare titles, and Rare is owned by Microsoft now.

as for Square games, I believe they already have one NES Square title. For Super Mario RPG… maybe Nintendo is working on a true sequal for it and will wait till that is anounced befor they release it on VC… who knows.

I think his point was that Donkey Kong Country games are available for download on the VC, and they’re all Rare games, so why can’t Nintendo get the rights for other Rare games released on their systems? Like Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie, Killer Instinct…

One thing I have to admit, I still look forward to seeing what games will end up on the Virtual Console EVERY Monday, even if I do end up disappointed most of the time. At least I still have a lot of titles to really look forward to, so in a way it’s good that they’re not releasing 3-5 games each week.

By the way, I’m signed up for Nintendo’s official newsletter. They send the e-mail for the new VC releases on FRIDAY — a full four days after they are available. Kinda pathetic, in a way. So anyway, I’m glad for a site like this that keeps me updated as they’re added.

the reason donkey kong country is on is because Donkey Kong is a Nintendo character so it out weights the rare license. Perfect Dark is now owned by Microsoft.
