Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Monday October1, 2007 8:42 am in NES
Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros.® 2, this game has previously made only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Now available on the Virtual Console™ in all of its original splendor, Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game, while finding that its updated game play creates an entirely new challenge. No longer content just to wear different-colored overalls, Mario and Luigi also possess different skill sets: Mario can stop quicker, while Luigi can jump higher. In addition to the classic enemies already known to fans worldwide, there are also Poison Mushrooms, backward Warp Zones, and the occasional wind gust (which can help or hinder your progress) to take into account. And if that’s somehow not enough, expert players can go looking for the game’s secret worlds. So get ready to put your Mario skills to the ultimate test, and save the Princess again. Just don’t be surprised if she’s in another castle.

I remember playing this game for the Super NES since I was a kid I mean it was fun I didn’t know that this game was originally considered super mario bros 2 in Japan but since it’s american release for the Super NES part of Super Mario All Stars released for the Super NES. But I hope Nintendo can release Super Mario Bros 3 for the Wii Virtual Console and I just felt like posting a comment on this game because I remember playing this game since I was 7 years old.
Man i love this game but I dont understand why they are chargeing more for these 2 games they would already be making a killing on them n e way. Also i hope these are not going to be the new prices for the game b/c i know myself will find it alot harder to shell out 6$ for an nes game.
I’m hoping that this trend in pricing doesn’t continue as well, but there has been one other game that had an inflated price of $6 when it was released and it hasn’t happened until now. So all in all I think we are safe with the pricing situation with the exception of “rare” games and licensed games that have new movies like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I never understood why Ninja Turtles was priced at 600 points since the game BLOWS! God it’s so damn hard and stupid and frustrating… its just terrible. But why are they pricing the lost levels? I mean WTF Nintendo!? and 1200 points for some obscure N64 game? That’s ridiculous! Well if they want to charge extra for a game they should release Star Fox 2 on the god damn VC! There is a SNES game I would be willing to give out 1000 points for!
Im not sure what snes game that you woud pay 1000 points for but there are a few that i would. (Earthbound, Mario rpg ECT)
well Star Fox 2 was never even released. It was pretty much like 98% compleated then they just scrapped the project for unknown reasons… you can find it as a rom around the net and it plays fairly well… just not the same fell witha keyboard as a controller would.
The extra 100 points are for “translation” apparently. Like what they did for “Sin & Punishment” for N64.
Although, it may be true that with this original version of Super Mario Bros 2, there was virtually no translation work to be actually DONE, since the original Famicom Disk System version of SMB2 (a.k.a Lost Levels) was even ORIGINALLY in English, but…
wait, what the hell was I saying?
Nevermind. My point is that this stuff about a point increase for “import games” being for simply covering the costs for translation, is straight up horse crap. This game is proof of that.
Sure it’s a great game, a veritable challenge, and despite what this odd screenshot may show, the VC download is actually the original Famicom version and not the Super Mario All-stars version pictured here… you’re basically paying 100 more points than usual for an NES game just because A. You’ve never seen it before, unless you emulate the Famicom DIsk System and got this rom somehow, and B. Because Nintendo thinks that the average consumer are huge suckers.
Oh wait, this is currently, according to Virtual Console statistics, the most popular Wii download thus far?
I stand corrected. The average consumer IS a huge sucker.
Well all I can say is.. hot damn. >_>
